Chapter 15

“A bit defensive, wasn’t she?” Tessa closed the door to her jeep.

“Very.” Cassie shook her head. “But I’m not so sure about her motive. Could she really be certain that she would take over as producer? The studio could easily replace her with someone else.”

“Maybe she was prepared to risk it. But that may not have been her only motive, but it could have been a nice bonus.” Tessa turned into the driveway. “I’ll call and update Ollie about the hidden room.” She got out of the jeep and looked up at the house.

Harry ran up to the gate and barked as he spun around a few times.

“We saw each other about an hour ago, Harry.” Cassie smiled. “Did you miss me?” She laughed as she walked over to the gate.

Tessa walked up behind her and opened the gate.

“You might as well say hello to him.”

Cassie walked through the gate and bent down to greet him.

“Hi pup.” She rubbed behind his ears.

As Cassie stood up she heard a loud bleat. Two goats came running toward them.

“Uh oh.” Tessa laughed. “I think they’re hungry for treats.” They ran straight toward Cassie and Tessa. Before they could reach them, Harry turned around and ran behind the goats. The goats changed direction with Harry hot on their tails.

“Saved by the dog!” Cassie laughed.

“I better get them fed. Before they jump the fence and help themselves. They’re a bit spoilt. You would think a garden full of foliage would be enough to keep them full, but apparently not, they love their treats.” Tessa smiled at Cassie. “We’d both better get some rest before tomorrow. I promised to be there by eight in the morning with the boys and the cookies.”

“I’ll be here to help.” Cassie pointed to the back. “Speaking of the boys. They are so fast. Looks like they’re coming back around again.” She laughed as the two goats ran from the back with Harry still behind them.

“Okay, okay.” Tessa laughed. “I better feed them.”

Cassie watched Harry, Gerry and Billy who turned and followed after Tessa, then she walked through the gate that led to her own house. She stepped inside, and flipped the light on.

As Cassie walked through to the kitchen, she recalled the mess she’d left behind. She had been distracted by the murder and hadn’t cleaned it up yet. She turned on the kitchen light, anticipating the pile of tiles and tools scattered all over the counter. Instead, she saw a backsplash behind her sink. Each tile was perfectly lined up. The tools were in the toolbox. She wiped her fingertips across the counter and realized it had been cleaned.

“Sebastian?” Cassie continued to stare at the tiles. Why would he let himself into her house with the key she gave him, and finish tiling her backsplash without so much as a word to her? She pulled out her phone to make sure she hadn’t missed any messages or calls. Still, there hadn’t been a single word.

Stunned, Cassie wondered for a moment what she should do.
